Hello,

September 2011

Thank you!

The move of machinery to our new building in Holland, MI was not "flawless" to say the least, and our turn-around on product output was not without issues. However, we want to thank you for your patience during the move! As a token of our appreciation for your patience, pease be sure to ask about FREE shipping on your next order!

Product News - Carbon Grid Mesh:

We hope to be producing the Carbon Grid Mesh for decorative concrete & precast once again this fall. This is the last monster of a machine to go online after our move. We are also testing the new shear pin design in the field, and with some tweaking to make it more user-friendly, we will have this product to you soon.

Announcing the Fortress/Fortec Installer Bid Package:

We've been working with Richard E. Prince, PE of Prince Engineering PLC in Traverse City MI and we have developed a tool to help you in qualifying for DOT and Commercial projects.

Carbon Saves House From Collapse; The Need for Flood Insurance

It has been a quite a summer! While half of the country is burning up, the other half of the country is flooding! We were recently called upon a project somewhat unique, but more common than we realize.

Fortress Carbon Fiber Straps were installed four years prior; the house was sold and the new owner wanted to re-do outside. He removed pavers, shrubbery, trees, downspouts, etc. thus creating a negative grade of clay soil. This side of home also faced a 30° hillside.

One June evening, six inches of rain fell in less than one hour! To calculate how many gallons of water rushed off of the roof and next to the foundation wall, from the hill to the negative grade clay soil, is mind boggling! The 8” CMU wall moved in four feet, ripping out seal plate bolts!

Since this was a weight-bearing wall, the only thing that saved the house from collapsing was the Fortress Carbon Fiber Straps. The wall held together “for the most part” instead of tumbling down like dominos! The wall obviously had to be ripped out and replaced. No homeowner’s insurance would pay for this!!

If you are working in an area/jobsite that has negative grades, hillsides, mountainous regions, encourage building owners to purchase flood insurance, as most people will not know that their standard home insurance will not touch foundations!!
